The Den

celebrating 100 years

The Cub Section is for boys and girls aged 7 ½ years to 11 years. They meet on a Monday night from 7pm to 8:30pm. We have 24 Cubs in our Pack and they are divided into small groups called Sixes. Each Six has a Sixer and a Seconder and the Pack has three leaders and one Venturer Instructor. The Cub program is made up of wonderful activities, some just for fun and others to teach and learn (but don't tell the Cubs that!). Activities include, bike hikes, conservation fun, sleepovers, swimming, music making, hiking, science experiments, camp cooking, games and exploring different cultures.

Our Cub pack was first formed in 1916. In the early days in England, Scout Troops were bothered by small brothers coming along and demanding to be allowed to join. So in sheer desperation Wolf Cubs were invented to accommodate them. And hence our pack was born. Clarence (Curly) Howard was the first Cubmaster. His brother Alf was our first official Cub. At first not much was known of Cub training, and it is believed that Alf Howard had passed most of the Scout tests before anyone realised that Cubs were not supposed to do that sort of thing!
